Flint Library gets full renovation
It’s been 12 months since the official reopening of Flint Library after it underwent a huge transformation. Back in 2019, £300,000 of funding for improvements at Flint Library was secured through a successful capital grant application to the Welsh Government’s Museums, Archives and Libraries Division (MALD). Flintshire County Council and Aura contributed a further £60,000 for the setting’s impressive upgrade.
It was an honour to be involved in this incredible project, transforming the library into a modern, multi-purpose facility for the community to enjoy.
In a space of 12 weeks, the main library, training rooms and children’s library were redesigned and renovated, with a bright and contemporary look. A new heritage exhibition area and community kitchen were also part of the transformation. It really was a joy working on this invaluable project, and everyone at Forster Tullett is thrilled with the results.
The official reopening of the library took place on World Book Day 2020, with over 450 visitors visiting throughout the day. Lord Elis-Thomas, Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism was on hand to help with the celebrations.

I have visited several co-located libraries across Wales and I have seen first-hand the improvements it can bring to the local community by having local services in one place – I wish this hub well for the future.”

Library manager Susannah Hill added: “Now that the library doors have reopened, we will be able to deliver our services in new ways and offer much more to the Flint community. The library is now a modern and flexible space to explore stories and information, allowing us to offer a variety of activities and events for everyone. Book issues in February 2020 were up by 600 in comparison to last February which is fantastic – it’s been wonderful to see the reaction from the local community so far.”
Covid-19 government guidance has meant that not all facilities are currently available to the public, but we’re hoping this fantastic venue will be open again in full soon…
